Here you’ll find some of the most desirable antiquities in our gallery. Although, all pieces have been independently verified and studied, these are the pieces with exquisite histories. This could be: original paperwork, a provenance over 70 years or additional scientific tests. We believe that when an artefact has at least one of these credentials it tells a better story.

Indeed here at Pax Romana, we believe the stories of collecting antiquities can be almost as interesting as their use in the ancient past! Explore our categories below and email us if you have any questions. If you want anymore information about how we attain the authenticity of all of our items, please see here.

Please note that these categories only show up to the 6 most recent pieces in that category, please see our full catalogue for our full range of items.

ANTIQUITIES WITH 70+ YEARS PROVENANCE

These items have a provenance or record that finds them recorded in collections over 70 years ago. This means that they often come with original paper work and you can see for yourself that they’ve long been bought and sold as a valuable antiquity.

ANTIQUITIES WITH SCIENTIFIC TESTS

For these antiquities, either a TL or XRF test has been completed to confirm their authenticity. The TL test is for terracotta and assess the firing date. Alternatively, for metal objects the XRF test uses X-rays to record the metal composition.

ANTIQUITIES WITH ORIGINAL PAPERWORK

In this category, items have additional paperwork with them. This paperwork can be analysis from experts or paper copies from the Provenance. When reselling an item, this provenance can add significantly to an object’s price.

SOLD PREVIOUSLY IN CHRISTIE’S OR SOTHEBY’S

Pax Romana is a well respected auction house, so it always pleases us when we can sell pieces that were sold in the prestigious Christie’s or Sotheby’s. It shows to you as a client that not only have our experts looked over this piece, but so have the experts of these two large auction houses.
